I was thinking about this just this morning...and thought id type my thoughts out. I have been blessed my whole life with wonderful roommates.
My first roommate was my older sister Kelly. I was two, she was five. I cant really remember much about it, but im sure we did cool stuff. A few years later, Kelly, in typically oldest child fashion, got her own room and Kristen and I shared. I do remember that room with our matching twin comforters and how we used to whisper back and forth behind the bookshelf between our beds at night when we were supposed to be sleeping...
In college, i had several. Some were picked at random, some were my choice, all great.
When I moved to the DC area after graduation, I went online and found a random roommate...who turned out awesome. Looking back it seems scary to me that I did this, but the Lord always watched out for me.
When i moved out to Colorado, I lived with 6 other wonderful gals. and shared a room with a girl who is now one of my bestest friends. Who we shared a room with was totally chosen at random...crazy.
Moving to TX, i lived with a wonderful family, then randomly met Ashlee and moved into a big house with four other girls and it was awesome. Last year I got to live with one of my closest friends in Dallas, Jeni.
Now I own my own home, and Christy, Ashlee and I all live together again!
I don't know how people live alone. I truly don't. I love having roommates to come home to. To share life with. To cry with. Laugh with. Walk with. People who speak truth and love into my life.
I also love the fact that we get to model what authentic friendship looks like to my high school friends. They come over and get to see women close to thirty (gasp) living life for Jesus, living life with each other and having a blast.
Sharing rooms, and kitchens and houses has taught me a lot about myself and about community.
I have been blessed with roommates who care about me, and show it in so many ways.
So here's to my roommates of past and present, Kelly, Kristen, Christine, Pam, Lisa, Brooke, Jana, Nancy, Shannon, Sarah Mae, Shelley, Grace, Katie, Sarah, Christy, Ashlee, Lauren, Jeni, Mary Jo, Lee Anne...thanks for loving me.
